Speaking to a leading daily, The Balika Vadhu actor said that we have been fed the wrong notion about ideal beauty standard. We have seen so many advertisements considering fair as beautiful and she has never been comfortable with the idea. She added, "Being fair cannot be equivalent to your overall personality. Another reason why I refused to endorse these products is that I know that this kind of unrealistic approach towards the concept of beauty can have a lasting impression on young minds".

Avika Gor refuses fairness product endorsements also because she firmly believes that being fair won't make one confident and beautiful. "As an actor, it was a conscious decision to not degrade anyone but to send out the right message. Being fair won't make you confident and beautiful". The actor is of the view that one's work ethics, thinking, talent, and overall personality matters the most as these are one's defining qualities.

She further said that there was a time when she was doing great on the work front but she doubted her talents and felt ugly. She didn't like what she saw in the mirror. But she later shifted her perspective. She started taking care of her body, eating right, loving herself and staying happy. It was then that the change happened.

Avika Gor is not the first one to have refused such endorsements. In an Instagram post, Bollywood actor Bipasha Basu mentioned how she was offered several advertisements but she 'stuck to her principles' by refusing them.

She said, "Many skin care endorsements with loads of money were offered to me in the last 18 years (some were very tempting)...but I stuck to my principles always," adding "This wrong dream that we are selling...that only fair is lovely and beautiful when the majority of the country is brown skinned. It's a deep rooted stigma".

Gor is mainly known for having played the role of Anandi in the daily soap Balika Vadu for two years. Last year she opened up about her weight loss journey. Click here to view the post.
