Music composer and singer Anupam Roy and wife Piya Chakraborty have announced separation after six years of marriage.

The duo took to social media to announce the news of their separation. In a joint statement they wrote, “We, Anupam and Piya, have mutually decided to conclude our marital relationship and pursue our own independent trajectories as friends."
Further, they said, their journey together had been a beautiful one, full of treasured experiences and happy memories. However, due to personal differences, they feel it is best to part ways as husband and wife. However, they will continue to be the closes and remain invested in each other’s well-being. They thanked, "all friends, family, and well-wishers who have supported us at each step so far. We request for your continued empathy and understanding to help us make this transition with privacy and dignity.” While Anupam shared the news on Twitter Piya shared it on Instagram.
Anupam Roy rose to fame in Tollywood songs like Amake Amar Moto Thakte Dao, Bawshonto Ese Geche, Ekhon Onek Raat, and Bondhu Chol. He won hearts in Bollywood with his soulful album in the film, Piku. He won the Filmfare Award for best background score for Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan-starrer film Piku.
Who is Piya Chakraborty?
Anupam and Piya tied the knot in 2015 after being in love for a few years. Piya was from Presidency University and Anupam is from Jadavpur University. She later was a PhD student of Anthropology and used to reside in Delhi. Piya on her social media profile identifies herself as a sociologist, social activist and part-time musician. Piya also runs an NGO which works for people in distress.
Talking about their relationship, Chakraborty was previously quoted saying, “From being complete strangers to acquaintances to friends -it has been a fluid relationship. What brought us together, amidst other things, was our love for Chandrabindoo.” She featured in the Bengali election song video, ‘Nijeder Motey', featuring some of Tollywood’s biggest names. The song went viral just two days ahead of Bengal legislative assembly election. The song made commentary on topical issues, including queer inclusivity and women’s freedom, in political contexts.
