Actor Angelina Jolie alleged in a court filing that during a flight in 2016, her then-husband Brad Pitt grabbed her by the head and shook her. The actor further alleged that Pitt then choked one of their children and beat up another when they tried to defend her.

Jolie filed a cross-complaint in the couple’s dispute over a house and winery they co-owned in France. The court filing also consisted of descriptions of abuse that allegedly took place in September 2016.

The court filing alleged, “Pitt’s aggressive behaviour started even before the family got to the airport, with Pitt having a confrontation with one of the children.” Jolie claimed that Pitt accused her of being “too deferential to the children” and proceeded to attack her verbally. Pitt allegedly dragged her into the bathroom and started yelling at her.

The court filing further alleged, “Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall”.

The filing claimed that Pitt lunged toward their child and Jolie grabbed onto him from behind to stop him. To remove Jolie off his back, Pitt allegedly threw himself back into the plane’s seats and injured her back and elbow.

Jolie also alleged that Pitt choked on of their children and struck another child in the face.

The filing claimed that Pitt poured beer on Jolie and also poured beer and red wine on their children during the flight. Pitt also allegedly periodically emerged from the back of the plane to yell at Jolie and his children.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigated the incident in 2016 and authorities decided not to press charges.

Jolie’s claims of abusive behaviour by her ex-husband on the flight had emerged in previous court papers, including in the former couple’s divorce settlement. A judge awarded joint custody of the children to Pitt and Jolie last year.

The court filing is part of the ongoing lawsuit over Chateau Miraval SA, the home and vineyard in France that the former couple acquired together.
