Alia Bhatt's Dark Comedy 'Darlings' To Release Soon On OTT, Check Release Schedule

After the huge success of Gangubai Kathiawadi and RRR, Alia Bhatt is ready with her upcoming film. She plays Badrunissa Shaikh in the Darlings movie, which is a powerful female character, as the trailer suggests. Soon, the movie can be watched on OTT.

Darlings is a dark comedy in which, in order to exact revenge on her husband for the years of cruelty she endured, the story centres on a wife who kidnaps her own husband. Her mother, played by Shefali Shah, assists the young woman in this mission. Bhatt plays the role of the wife, Badrunissa, in the film, while Vijay Varma plays husband, Hamza. In the trailer, Hamza is shown being sought after by Badrunissa and her mother in revenge for the abuse she suffered at his hands.

The movie's trailer makes it clear that Shefali Shah and Alia Bhatt have a great deal of chemistry together. Bhatt also shared that Darlings is a mother-daughter movie.

Parveez Sheikh created the movie's screenplay, while Jasmeet K. Reen, co-wrote the movie and also directed it. She primarily created screenplays and scripts for Bollywood movies, with Force 2 serving as her directing debut. Some of her other significant works include Fanney Khan, Gustakhiya, and Pati Patni Aur Woh, among others.

Bhatt turned producer for the first time and co-produced the movie under her own production company, Eternal Sunshine. Gaurav Verma and Gauri Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment are also the producers of the movie.

Bhatt said it all came really naturally in answer to the question of how she made the decision to portray two roles at once. She made the quip that perhaps it was a good moment for her to start making movies in which she plays the lead or other significant roles, or perhaps it was the ideal time for her to approach stories quite differently.

Bhatt continued, "Maybe it all worked well together, but I was so taken in by how the genre suddenly switched so dramatically when I heard Darlings and the narration. It just so happened that I thought, When I want to act in it, I also want to create it. It was a very special story. Darlings came first, and then I produced Eternal Sunshine. As a result, darlings will always hold a very special place in my heart."

The film will be available on the OTT platform Netflix on August 5. It will be released globally at 12:00 a.m.
