Australian cricketer Tim Paine has gone on an "indefinite" mental health break. The wicketkeeper was caught in a sexting scandal recently following which he resigned as the captain of the country's test team a week ago. Paine had however continued as a member of the cricket team and was planning on playing for the Ashes series, from which he has stepped back now.

This announcement came before Tasmania's Marsh Cup game on November 26, today, which he was going to participate in. The cricketer's manager, James Henderson tweeted, "Confirming that (Tim Paine) is stepping away from cricket for an indefinite mental health break," adding, "We are extremely concerned for his and Bonnie's well-being and will be making no further comment at this time."
Cricket Tasmania said that after 24 hours of discussion, the cricketer has taken a leave of absence from "all forms of cricket." The organisation also said that it recognised how tough the times are for him and his family and was lending support to the player, both professionally and personally.
In an interview with Herald Sun, Paine said that he was not planning to retire and wanted to keep playing. He wanted to represent his country in the series and help the team win it.
The Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) also expressed sadness over the development. It had, initially, stated that it do not believe that Paine would resign and insisted that he be "allowed" to continue playing for the team.
Seeing ACA's support to the cricketer, David Warner's wife Candice had expressed concern in the way his situation is being handled. "They're (Cricket Australia) basically saying that it's not OK for an Australian cricket captain to send these messages, but it's OK for an Australian player. As a wife of an Australian player, that is slightly concerning and it does make me worry," she said.

Paine resigned from the captaincy after media revelations that he had been involved in sending "sexually explicit" messages to a former female colleague in the year 2017. The former colleague was part of Cricket Tasmania.
He expressed an apology to his wife, family and "the other person" after there was a chance of the text message leaking out in public.
