42 Blind Women Play The First Cricket Tournament Organised In Tamil Nadu

42 players competed in cricket for blind women organised in Tamil Nadu on Saturday and Sunday. The first cricket tournament for blind women took place in Nagercoil, Kanyakumari district.

The blind women's cricket team of Tamil Nadu held a weekend tournament to find players. Since there is no blind women's cricket team at the district level. The participants were divided into three teams, each with 14 people, including three replacements, from all over the state.

The teams were Ruby Women Warriors, Diamond Women Warriors, and Emerald Women Warriors, with each playing two league matches of 10 overs each. The finals were held on Sunday.

Cricket For Blind Women Paves The Way For Inclusive Sport

According to a report, The first league match pitted Diamond and Emerald against each other. Emerald scored 45 for three wickets in their first innings. Diamond won by nine wickets after scoring 46 for the loss of one wicket in 8.3 overs. Diamond batting first scored 63 runs for two wickets in the second match between Diamond and Ruby. They won by 25 runs, scoring 38 runs for three wickets.

V Mahendran, general secretary of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association for the Blind, said that each of the three teams' playing 11 had four B1 players (fully blind). There are four B2 players (partially blind) and three B3 players (partially sighted).

The first national level inter-state cricket tournament for blind women, according to V Mahendran, was held in 2019. Tamil Nadu, on the other hand, was unable to compete because it lacked state or district-level teams.

"We have 14 registered district level teams for blind men. We are in the process of forming the district level teams to conduct tournaments among them. We will be finalising the Tamil Nadu state team this week," said V Mahendran.
