Bianca Andreescu out of Australian Open: Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu's comeback to the tennis court after 15 months was cut short on Wednesday. The Canadian tennis star suffered a shocking defeat at the Australian Open leading to her exit from the tournament.

Andreescu, a Canadian tennis player, was beaten by veteran Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan with a 6-3 6-2 score in a game that lasted for only 23 minutes. The 2019's US Open winner left the Melbourne Park court disappointed but said that her "fighting spirit" is still alive, Reuters reported.

In her first competitive match after 15 months, Andreescu scored a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 first-round win over Romania's Mihaela Buzarnescu on Monday.

Bianca Andreescu had stunned Serena Williams in the final at the 2019 US Open but couldn't participate in any game last year due to a knee injury.

She became one of the latest top-10 players to have been beaten by the world No. 79 Su-Wei, who skilfully made her way to the third round of the Australian Open. She earned a smashing victory over world No. 9 Andreescu, adding to her impressive record against top 10 ranked players.

“I got off the court and I was looking at my coach, and I said I’m just disappointed that today that was my all because I know I gave my all today and to me I think that was the most disappointing part,” 20-year-old Andreescu told reporters.

She had been suffering from a left knee injury since the WTA Finals in October 2019 and has not played a competitive match since.

“I didn’t put expectations on myself. There’s always unconscious expectations for sure, but verbal expectations, not really. So I’m just going to take this as a learning curve and bounce back for the next tournament,” she added.

Su-wei, on the other hand, will play seven-time Slam winner Venus Williams or Italian qualifier Sara Errani next.
