Arunachal's Hillang Yajik Wins Gold, Silver At South Asian Bodybuilding C'ships

Hillang Yajik from Arunachal Pradesh made history by winning a gold medal and a silver medal at the 15th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships.

Arunachal Pradesh’s Hillang Yajik has etched her name in the history of bodybuilding. At the age of 25, she bagged two medals: a gold and a silver, at the 15th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships 2025 in Thimphu, Bhutan. She became the first female athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to win a gold medal at the international level.

Who is Hillang Yajik?

Born in Kurung Kumey, Arunachal Pradesh, she once aspired to be a police officer. She began bodybuilding on a whim but later took the sport seriously after finding inspiration. Yajik made her debut at the Federation Cup in Gangtok, Sikkim, in 2022. Ever since, she has competed in numerous events, including the WBPF World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship.

Yajik has won four gold medals in Miss Fitness Arunachal Pradesh events, a silver in the Federation Cup National Championships 2024, and many other accolades. Besides bodybuilding, Yajik is also a fitness trainer and dance instructor. She reportedly holds a master's degree in political science.

Yajik Becomes The First Woman From Arunachal To Win An International Gold

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to X to congratulate Yajik on her exceptional performance. His post read, "Your dedication, discipline, and determination have carved a proud chapter for Arunachal and the nation. More power to you, Hillang!"

Speaking to NDTV, Yajik shared, “These medals are very important for my state since female bodybuilding is not popular. My next aim is the Asian and World Championships. I want to win a medal for the country.”

Currently, Yajik is aiming for medals in the Asian and World Championships. She aspires to win more medals for the country.
