Who Is Amanjot Kaur?

22-year-old Amanjot Kaur's journey from playing gully cricket with school and neighbourhood boys to making it to the national team is inspiring in a lot of ways. It's been a challenging path for the Punjab cricketer, who changed cities and travelled to and fro across the state with limited means to play cricket.

While a lot of people did not believe that Kaur could actually make a career nationally, her father stood beside her as a rock and did everything he could to guide her.

Singh enrolled her in an academy when she was 15, reduced his business by half and took to carpentry so he could accompany her for practice sessions. He assisted her during travel across the state, and while several roadblocks still stood in their way, their grit helped them overcome it all.

A student of MCM DAV College, Kaur plays for the Punjab Cricket Association currently. Her captaincy and cricketing skills were instrumental in guiding the Chandigarh senior women's team through several matches before she moved to the PCA.

Maiden Debut In 2023

In a recent ">interview post her selection, Kaur credited her selection to all her believers and especially thanked her father for never losing faith in her. She said, "It has been a childhood dream, ever since I started playing cricket, and to be able o live this dream now makes me so grateful especially looking back from where I came."

Kaur added that her coach Nagesh Gupta's guidance has helped her understand the deeper aspects of the game and her performance while playing for the North Zone is testimony to her talent.

For Kaur, the upcoming tri-series is special in a lot of ways. She is not just looking forward to playing with her role model, Indian team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, but also proving her mettle and honouring her parents' sacrifices.
