After the video of a woman cop resisting the officials from entering her house went viral, the cop Saima Akther was terminated from service for “glorifying militancy”. Know more about the incident and the J&K cop who got fired.

A woman Special Police Officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was arrested and terminated from service on Friday. She was charged for obstructing the officials in doing their duties and 'glorifying militancy'. Saima Akther was blamed for 'violent behaviour with the search party of the government officials'.

Why was the woman cop fired?

  • The woman cop Saima Akther resisted a search party of officials and obstructed them from carrying out their duties. She was recorded from a phone camera.
  • A video of the woman cop, Saima Akther went viral on the internet wherein she is heard yelling at the security personnel to stop the search operation in her village.
  • The video shows the woman cop with aim of disrupting the search.
  • In the background of the video, several women are heard saying, "Kashmir Hamara hai, (This is our Kashmir)."
  • Akther was also heard saying that they are being bothered every now and then by forces for search operations even at odd hours and when there are women alone in the house.

What does the statement by police say?

A statement by the spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir police says, "During the course of the search, the search party was obstructed by a woman identified as Saima Akther of Frisal. The woman resisted the search party, turned violent, and uttered statements glorifying violent actions of terrorism. She captured a video through her phone and forwarded it on social media platforms with the aim of disrupting the search."

This statement was recorded on Wednesday after the Police spokesperson had received specific input regarding the presence of militants in Karewa Mohallah of village Frisal. The police also said that an FIR has been registered and probe is underway. Currently, Akther has been detained under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and has been detained at the Yaripora Police Station.
