Prateek Yadav, the younger son of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, announced that he intends to divorce his wife Aparna Yadav. The announcement came through a series of posts on Instagram in which Prateek made serious personal allegations against Aparna and spoke about his own mental health struggles.

The issue has drawn widespread attention because of the political background of both individuals. While Prateek belongs to one of Uttar Pradesh’s most influential political families, Aparna Yadav is currently a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The matter has also triggered a surge in online searches and public discussion following the social media posts.

Divorce announcement and allegations

In his Instagram post, Prateek Yadav accused Aparna of ruining his relationship with his family and marrying him for fame and influence. “I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. All she wants to become is famous and influential,” he wrote.

He further claimed that he is going through a difficult phase mentally, and alleged that his wife has shown no concern for his condition. “Right now, I am in a very bad mental health condition, and she doesn’t bother. Because it’s only herself she bothers about,” Prateek said in the post.

In subsequent posts, Prateek intensified his allegations. He claimed that Aparna broke his relationships with his mother, father and brother and described her as the “biggest liar” and a self-interested person. He also stated that he felt unfortunate to have married her.

These statements reflect Prateek Yadav’s personal claims. As of now, Aparna Yadav has not issued a public response, and there is no confirmation on whether formal legal divorce proceedings have been initiated.

Who is Prateek Yadav?

Prateek Yadav is the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife, Sadhana Gupta. He is the stepbrother of Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav. Unlike several members of the Yadav family, Prateek has largely stayed away from active politics.

He is an MBA graduate from Leeds University in London and is associated with business ventures in real estate and fitness.

According to his public profile, he is the founder of Iron Core Fit, a gym based in Lucknow. He is also the founder of Jeev Aashraya Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works in the field of animal welfare.

Prateek married Aparna Bisht, who later took the name Aparna Yadav, in 2011. They have a daughter together.

Who is Aparna Yadav?

Aparna Yadav, formerly Aparna Bisht, is currently a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She began her political career with the Samajwadi Party. In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, she contested from the Lucknow Cantonment constituency on an SP ticket but lost to BJP leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

In January 2022, Aparna joined the BJP. Her move attracted attention because of her association with the Yadav family, which has traditionally been aligned with the Samajwadi Party.

Ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections, she sought a BJP ticket from the Sarojini Nagar seat in Lucknow but did not receive it. In September 2024, she was appointed Vice Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women's Commission.

Aparna Yadav is an alumna of the University of Manchester, where she completed a master’s degree in international relations and politics. She is also trained in classical and semi-classical music, having studied at the Bhatkhande Music Institute in Lucknow.

She is the daughter of Arvind Singh Bisht, a senior journalist who later served as an information commissioner in Uttar Pradesh, and Ambi Bisht, who worked with the Lucknow Municipal Corporation.

Apart from politics, Aparna has been associated with social causes, including animal welfare and women-related issues. She has been active on social media and has often expressed views aligned with the BJP’s policies.

She has publicly praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath in the past.
