Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Payal Kukrani is the youngest candidate of the party in this election. She is also the daughter of Manoj Kukrani. Manoj Kukrani has been a controversial figure, he is one of the 16 convicts in the Naroda Patiya riots case, where 97 Muslims were killed.

Who Is Gujarat Election Winner Payal Kukrani?

Payal Kukrani emerged as a winner from Gujarat's Naroda constituency in the recently culminated Assembly Elections in the state. On Thursday, 8 December, the results were revealed, Kukarni won by a margin of 83,513 votes. Earlier, in the 2017 elections, BJP's Thawani Balram Khubchand won against the Congress candidate Tiwari Omprakash Darogaprasad.

While filing the nomination, Payal Kukrani said, "If she wins the election, her priority would be to develop the constituency and resolve the issues faced by the local people."

Anesthetist Kukrani is one among 160 candidates on the BJP's list of women, to replace MLA Balram Thawani. Kukrani said, “I am extremely happy that the party has placed its trust in me and gave me a ticket. My father gave 40 years to BJP. After completing my education, I took part in my mother's election campaign as well", as per an India Today report.

Her mother Reshma Kukrani, a local BJP corporator also added, "she would provide complete support to her daughter and make sure that she wins the election. The Kukrani family belongs to the Sindhi community which is dominant in the region. A few of part members were reportedly unhappy with the party decision over Kukrani not being a member of the community as she married a non-Sindhi person. This has worked in the favour of the BJP. BJP has Naroda Assembly seat since 1990. Kodnani became the MLA in 1998 and retained the seat in 2002 and 2007 also.
