Singer Zubeen Garg Slammed For Sexually Explicit Comments On Assamese Actor

Indian singer Zubeen Garg was slammed for alleged use of sexually explicit language to address an Assamese co-actor on stage during Prag Cine Awards 2021. 

The Assam State Commission for Women has reportedly taken a suo moto cognizance against the alleged sexually explicit remark made by the singer against actor Nishita Goswami. The panel has reportedly asked the Assam police to probe into the matter and take necessary actions.

In wake of the incident, public and netizens have been erupting in anger and demanding a public apology from the singer.

The incident took place and was caught on camera at Prag Cine Awards 2021. The event, held on January 30 in Meghalaya, had celebrities like Malaika Arora, Kusha Kapila, Adil Hussain and many other film personalities from Assam and other parts of the country in attendance.

During the event, Zubeen Garg shared the stage with the popular Assamese actor Nishita Goswami. Both of them were talking about a movie they together worked in. That is when he reportedly passed an sexually explicit remark on the actor.

Although the female actor didn't react against the comments on stage, the actor later stated on social media that she felt humiliated and hurt.

The actor uploaded a post on Facebook, which stated, "She is a Woman, She is a Mother, She is a Daughter, She is a Wife, She is a Sister. Respect Female." 

Public outrage

Social media has been teeming with anger against the 48-year-old singer. After the actor responded on Facebook, internet users as well as social activists have demanded a public apology from the singer. 

However, there were a few people who also disapproved of the actor's inaction and acceptance of such humiliation on stage. The actor in her comments to the post has said, "I couldn't react at that point of time maybe. But I have clearly stated that I don't accept it through this post. So after seeing this post how could u question me like this."
