The struggle of female actors in the film industry has always been a topic of concern. They are heavily judged based on their appearance and visual appeal, sidetracking their skills and talents. As they grow old with time, they are hardly offered any roles except for the mother and grandmother, sometimes even playing mothers to actors their age. Male actors on the other hand are not defined by such short 'shelf life' and do main roles with much younger female actors. Veteran actor Zeenat Aman also reflected upon this issue in the film industry and talked about her own dilemma with growing age.

Zeenat Aman On Dyeing Her Hair

Zeenat Aman shared a picture of herself on her official Instagram account in which she can be seen sitting on a sofa and flaunting a bob of silver hair. In the caption, she wrote, "As women, we are told that our social worth lies in the youth and physical beauty. If not explicitly, then in a thousand subliminal ways. This is especially true for the entertainment industry. In general, as we age, men are bequeathed gravitas but women are at best-offered sympathy."

She further shared her own dilemma of dyeing her hair or not and wrote, "I was initially reluctant to stop dyeing my hair, and was strongly advised against it. Some well-wishers even said it would negatively impact my work opportunities. It was only once I contemplated upon my own hesitations that I realised I really don’t care to buttress our society’s idolisation of youth. Being young is wonderful, but so is being old. It thrills me to see more and more silver-haired women (of all ages) challenge the status quo."

The picture, as she wrote in the caption, was taken by her son Zahaan Khan and was from a few weeks ago when she visited a friend in Alibaug. Aman recently joined Instagram about a week ago and though new to the gram, she keeps her followers engaged with interesting glimpses from her life.
