Prajakta Koli becomes UNDP 1st Youth Climate Champion, YouTuber Prajakta Koli
YouTuber Prajakta Koli became the first United Nations Development Program (UNDP) India Youth Climate Champion under the United Nations Development Programme-India on Friday. Koli will be tasked with interacting with young people in order to raise awareness about the negative effects of climate change, global warming, and biodiversity loss on all segments of society, particularly the poor and marginalised, which are affecting their lives and livelihoods, as well as the economy as a whole.

She'll speak on the importance of collective action by sharing inspiring examples of how governments, communities, and individuals are making concrete efforts to make a difference. According to the G20 People's Climate Vote 2021 Report, about 67 per cent of Indian youth regard climate change as a global issue and are vocal about the urgent need for policy innovation and change.

"I am really humbled and delighted to have been given this rare responsibility to represent a cause that is close to my heart," said Prajakta Koli, who is overjoyed. "As the first UNDP India Youth Climate Champion, I want to create and participate in events that encourage people to talk about climate action and the urgent steps that need to be taken," she added.

"The youth must be the revolution's leading lights and soldiers, working for the common objective of an enriched and empowered future in which the human species is not endangered. We are the ones who caused the problem, but we can also solve it. I will work with UNDP to bring together young people from all over the world to take meaningful climate action," she said.

"We are pleased to welcome Prajakta on board as the UNDP India Youth Climate Champion," says Shoko Noda, Resident Representative, UNDP India. Young people are leading the charge for a more sustainable world. Prajakta is well-known among millions of young Indians.
