The World's Oldest Person Shares Her Longevity Secrets

A glass of wine every day and chocolate are the secrets behind her long life. In fact, she wants to hold the record for the oldest person ever.

Sister André, a French nun, is now the oldest person in the world. She is 118 years and 73 days old. She was given the title by the Guinness World Records (GWR) on Monday. Before this, she was the oldest woman in Europe. However, the death of Japanese woman Kane Tanaka made her world oldest person.

According to Guinness World Records Website, she was born on February 11, 1904, as Lucille Randon. She looked after children as a governess and became a nun during World War Two in 1944.

She has been witness to major changes happening in the world in her lifetime. She was alive during the First World War. She has witnessed the Spanish Flu of 1918, Not only that, she also holds the record of becoming the world's oldest COVID-19 survivor in 2021.

She has been living in a nursing home in Toulon for the last 12 years. She spent the pandemic last year in her room.

The secret behind her longevity

According to her, a glass of wine every day and chocolate are the secrets behind her long life. In fact, she wants to hold the record for the oldest person ever, as per a report. It is currently held by a French woman named Jeanne Louise Calment who lived to be 122 years and 164 days old.

Her predecessor 

Kane Tanaka of Japan preceded Sister André and was the world's oldest living person. She died at age 119. She was born on Jan. 2, 1903 and died on April 19. She held the title for three years but died on 19th April after falling sick frequently. She was also a two-time cancer survivor who worked in her family's store until age 103. She got married at age 19 and had five children — four biological children and one was adopted, as per Guinness World Records.
