Kanpur Assault Case Shows Women Business Owners Have A Harder Path

Several women caterers at a private birthday party in Kanpur were subjected to physical assault by some men who harassed and forced them to dance. No arrests have been made so far.

Several women caterers at a private birthday party in Uttar Pradesh were misbehaved with on Wednesday night, as some men harassed and physically assaulted them. The incident took place in a farmhouse in Kanpur, where the men forced the female caterers to dance with them and when their offer was refused, began ripping off their clothes and recording lewd videos. The incident came to light after one of the women, accompanied by her husband, reported the incident to the police control room (112).

According to reports, the police arrived at the venue, but instead of addressing the complaint, the woman claimed that they questioned the legitimacy of her marriage and demanded proof. It was only when the Assistant Commissioner of Police was notified about the harassment, that an investigation was initiated. 

Women Harassed At Work

According to the police investigation, a man called Monu Singh had organised the birthday party in Kanpur's Panki area where the women were catering. According to the complainant's account, Singh and another man called R K Yadav began harassing the caterers soon after the birthday cake was cut and demanded they dance for the men. 

As the women refused the demands, the other partygoers, all men, surrounded them and started pulling apart their clothes and forcing them to dance, and recorded the incident. According to the woman's complaint, they even threatened the caterers, claiming their political influence.

No arrests have been made in the case, but the videos of the women's harassment have been circulating on social media. The incident has sparked outrage online, with some claiming that influential figures were also present at the party after they noticed a vehicle with the sticker of a national political party in the background.

The ACP has assured a thorough investigation into the matter and actions would be taken based on the evidence gathered.

When the vlogger, Kelly, was live-streaming on the streets of Pune during Diwali, she approached a man who startled her by grabbing her tight. 

The accused, who has now been arrested, held his arm on Kelly's neck, leaving her uneasy and forcing her to leave the market. The Pimpri-Chinchwad police arrested the accused since the video went viral on social media, with many disappointed in the misbehaviour with women visitors to the country.
