Rajasthan’s reserved parliamentary seat Dausa constituency will see women candidates from both BJP and Congress contesting against each other to win the Lok Sabha seat. After BJP recently announced Dausa ticket to former Union minister Jaskaur Meena, it becomes the only constituency which will witness a tough fight where both the candidates of national parties are women. Congress had already announced its ticket for Dausa to sitting MLA Murari Meena's wife Savita Meena.

It took BJP so long to finalise their candidate for Dausa because of the high demand of this seat with Rajya Sabha member Kirodi Singh Meena and independent MLA Om Prakash Hudla also in the list of contenders. Kirodi Meena actually wanted the ticket for his wife Golma Devi and Hudla was being recommended by former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, say poll watchers.

“There is a massive tussle going on within the BJP. The Congress will get the benefit due to tussle between the local political leaders dominance. The Congress will definitely get the edge,” said party's Dausa district president Ramji Lal Odh, in a Business Standard report.

In the Rajasthan assembly elections which happened last year, BJP could win a single seat of the seven seats in the Dausa district because of the speculated political rivalry of local Meena community leaders. While reports allege conflict within the party over candidacy of Dausa, the party denied it and said that Jaskaur Meena’s name was announced after Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar met all three nominees.

“My name should be finalised by today evening,” Hudla told News18.com before the name was announced.

“I have talked to BJP leaders. Javadekar had called me and Meena to Jaipur and now the national president will decide,” he said.

However, the party leaders don’t think delay in name will affect their poll prospect. "The Congress will not be able to take any edge over us. Don't worry everything will get right soon. We have started campaigning in right earnest and holding meetings in support of Jaskaur Meena," BJP Dausa district president Ghanshyam Balahedi said.

Jaskaur Meena, who currently heads the Scheduled tribes ST Morcha (wing) of the party at the national level, was elected MP from Sawai Madhopur constituency between 1999 and 2004. In the midst of her term as an MP, she became the Union Minister of State, Ministry of Human Resource Development for a year in 2003. Born in Dausa, she studied MA and BEd at the University of Rajasthan and then became a teacher and educational administrator in the Women and Child Development Department, Government of Rajasthan.

In 2014, BJP’s Harish Chandra Meena won the Dausa constituency but he quit the party last year ahead of the assembly polls and joined Congress. Rajasthan will go to poll in phase four (April 29) and phase five (May 6).
