The extraordinary case was detailed by doctors at the prestigious Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences and has been published in the esteemed journal Radiology.

Woman Gets Sack Of Marble Removed From Head

The 52-year-old woman, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that the protuberance had been developing on her scalp since childhood, but she had never sought medical assistance until now.

When she finally consulted the doctors, they were astonished to find a painless yet steadily enlarging scalp swelling, measuring an astonishing 6 inches in length, 4 inches in width, and nearly 5 inches in height.

An MRI scan of the woman's head revealed that the cyst resembled a fleshy hair bun, raising further curiosity among the medical team

Upon the surgical removal of the growth, the doctors made a striking discovery. The lesion was found to be filled with a mixture of fluid, hair, and fatty molecules, exhibiting thick outer rims, along with varying-sized balls of keratin.

For those unfamiliar with keratin, it is a vital protein responsible for the formation of hair, nails, and the outer layer of the skin. Scientifically termed dermoid cysts, these globules are known to develop from embryonic cells and can encompass unusual elements like hair, teeth, or nerves.

Although dermoid cysts typically occur in the head and neck region, they have been known to manifest in other parts of the body, including the ovaries.

Despite the peculiar nature of these congenital orbs, doctors assure that they are generally harmless and painless. However, complications may arise, ranging from infections to damage to adjacent bones. It remains a mystery as to why these growths form in certain individuals, leaving the medical community eager to understand their underlying causes.

In the case of the Bengaluru woman, the study did not disclose the reason behind her prolonged delay in seeking medical attention for the swelling.

Nevertheless, doctors emphasised that the growth itself did not cause her any pain. Following a successful removal procedure, the medical team carefully monitored her progress for six months and was pleased to note that there was no recurrence of the growth.

This extraordinary case has captured the attention of medical professionals worldwide, prompting further research and discussion on the intriguing phenomenon of dermoid cysts.
