Woman Finds Diamond Worth 10 Lakh Rupees
Chameli Bai, a homemaker living in Itwakala village, recently found the 2.08-carat diamond in a mine which she had taken on rent in the Krishna Kalyanpur Pati area of the district, said Anupam Singh, an official from Panna’s diamond office.

Officials said, “The stone is of good quality and may fetch up to Rs 10 lakh in the auction.”

The woman’s husband, who is a farmer, remarked that they wanted to buy a house in Panna city if they got a good price from the auction of the diamond. The diamond will be put up for sale in an upcoming auction.  Government guidelines will fix its price.

 According to the Print, the woman’s husband, Arvind Singh, said they had decided to try their luck in diamond mining and rented a small mine in the Krishna Kalyanpur Pati area in March this year.

Earlier in a report by the Mint, National Mineral Development Corporation, the Iron ore company (NMDC Ltd) conducted an e-auction for the sale of rough diamonds produced at its Panna mines in Madhya Pradesh. The e-auction received an overwhelming response from diamond merchants of Surat, Mumbai and Panna.

According to the company statement, around 8337 carats of rough diamonds, produced prior to December 2020, were offered in the auction and almost 100% of the quantity received winning bids.

With state of art technology and unparalleled experience, the company has become an entity that balances environmental safety and protection of people around the mines with enhanced production capacity for the nation."

The Diamond Mining Project of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC Ltd) manages the diamond mines in Panna and are under of Government of India. In other mines, the land is leased to prospective miners every year by the government agency. The district magistrate of Panna collects and auctions the diamonds unearthed in the month of January. Auctions are open to the public and require Rs. 5000 deposit. Upwards of 100 diamonds of different carats and shades are offered for auction.
