The Kerala Story starring Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani is a fictional story said to be based on the conversion of girls to Islam in Kerala for the purpose of assisting ISIS in their terrorist activities. The movie faced a lot of criticism for showing Islam in the wrong light and was also promoted by many BJP leaders as a campaign against interfaith relationships.

Woman elopes after watching The Kerala Story

The film, which was supposed to make Hindu women rethink their decision of marrying Muslim men, reportedly turned out to have a completely opposite effect on a 19-year-old girl who watched the film with BJP leader Pragya Thakur.

The incident is reportedly from Bhopal where a 19-year-old girl went missing on May 15 and her family alleged that she eloped with her Muslim boyfriend named Yusuf Khan. Khan, who is a college dropout and has multiple criminal cases of theft, arson, and assault against him, was the brother of the girl's classmate in nursing college. They got into a relationship and the girl had tried to elope with him earlier as well on May 11. At that time, her family had taken the help of BJP leader Pragya Thakur to make her realise the danger of her interfaith relationship.

The girl was later made a part of the group of girls that Pragya Thakur took with her to watch The Kerala Story as an attempt to show the 'reality' of interfaith relationships. However, just a few days later, on May 15, the girl eloped once again. The family has alleged that she took Rs. 70,000 cash and some jewellery as well with her. They tried to file a missing complaint with the police but they did not do so citing her previous elopement incident.

Meanwhile, Yusuk Khan's father, who has a flour mill, reportedly said that he had evicted his son from the house. His youngest daughter, a classmate of the girl, had said that her brother tried cutting ties with her friend but she allegedly forced him to elope with her. The girl, after eloping, had released a video in which she claimed that she is an adult and knows what she is doing. The police have filed a case and are currently searching for the girl.
