She developed sudden labour pains and happened to deliver her child at home. However, after the birth she suffered excessive bleeding and required immediate medical help, as per reports

According to The News Minute, a doctor from Sholur PHC came for treatment and gave the woman first aid. Later, owing to her condition, the family was suggested to take her to Ooty government hospital. Due to the lack of roads in the hamlet, the new mother who was still bleeding was carried in a makeshift hammock for over a kilometre before the family shifted her to an ambulance.

Following the incident, the residents of the hamlet demanded Tamil Nadu Minister MK Stalin to lay proper roads in the region.

Earlier in 2019, it was reported that Sokkan Alai, a hill hamlet is all set to get a road facility soon from Kannakarai in the Theni district. People have been walking up the hilly terrain for many years, which goes through the reserve forest area.

Reportedly, there are about 40 families living in the tribal village and they do not have access to proper medical facilities and other basic amenities.

Especially during the rainy season, villagers find it difficult to go to the town for requirements like food and medicine, as it gets slippery and even dangerous to walk on.

Back in 2020, a woman from Ghatguda in Dasmanthpur block was carried on a sling across the Muran river as the ambulance could not reach the village due to the absence of a motorable road.

According to The New Indian Express, Sukru Mudli was taken to Dasmanthpur hospital in the vehicle where she delivered a baby girl.

In another instance, the same year, a pregnant woman from the Koraput district was carried in a sling to the hospital due to poor road connectivity to villages in Odisha. She delivered twins in the hospital but one of them died.
