Woman Advocate Registers Rape Case Against Two Lawyers In Mumbai

A woman advocate has filed a rape and molestation case against seven persons, including two lawyers and five others. On the complaint of the woman, an FIR was registered on Saturday by Mumbai police. The 35-year-old alleged that she was sexually assaulted by the primary accused under the pretext of offering a better salary in their legal firm, an official said on Monday.

The main accused,  who is a lawyer at his firm in south Mumbai, promised the survivor Rs 1.50 lakh monthly salary, the woman said in her statement to police.

Additionally, the accused man assured her that he would provide her with the letterhead of the firm and an appointment letter. Quoting the FIR, the Marine Drive police station official said that the accused raped her at the office.

The official also informed that the woman advocate claims that another lawyer and five members of staff used to molest her inside the office.

A case was registered against the two lawyers and five staff members under sections 376 (rape), 380 (Theft in dwelling house), 385 (extortion), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), and 354 (Assault of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the official said.

However, as per the official statements no arrest has been made so far but the police are verifying the allegations and will take appropriate action.

Back in 2019, in a similar case, an advocate was arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly raping a law student. A law student registered a complaint with the Chilkalguda police stating that she met advocate Immeneni Rama Rao at Hyderabad City Civil Court for an internship.

Following the meeting, the accused advocate on April 21 invited the survivor to his residence.

As per reports, the advocate allegedly raped her and on April 25 he again called the survivor to his residence and tried to extort her by threatening. The wife of the lawyer was also accused of helping him.

The police later apprehended the accused person. He is being sent to judicial remand.
