Odisha Woman Accuses Husband Of Selling Her Kidney Without Her Knowledge

A woman accused her husband of selling her kidney without her knowledge in 2018.  She filed a complaint against her husband and sister-in-law for the same.

Ranjita Kundu, a woman from the Kotameta village in the Malkangiri district of Odisha alleged that her husband Prasant Kundu sold one of her kidneys. She claimed that he sold her kidney without her knowledge under the pretext of treatment in 2021.

Woman Accuses Husband Of Selling Kidney

Ranjita Kundu said, “In 2018, my husband admitted me to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after I developed a stone and there he sold one of my kidneys without my knowledge or consent.” Kunda added that she was “unaware” during the whole incident as she had been administered anaesthesia.

Kundu filed a complaint against her husband Prasant Kundu and her sister-in-law Seema Nandi. She alleged that her husband sold the kidney to someone named Asim Haldar who resided in one of the villages in the district.

According to Ranjita Kundu, her husband hails from Bangladesh and was staying in her village. The couple got married 12 years ago and have two children together, a son and a daughter. Kundu said that her husband left for Andhra Pradesh for work and got married to another girl. She said, “My sister-in-law supports my husband in all his activities and tortures me.”

Kundu said she was forced to reside at her parent’s home after her husband abandoned her and her children.

The police said that a case has been registered based on Kundu’s complaint and an investigation has been initiated. Rigan Kindo, inspector-in-charge of Malkangiri police station said, “The incident is of 2018 and the woman has come up with the complaint after four years. All possible angles are being examined and the complainant’s husband and sister-in-law will be interrogated and necessary action will be taken.”
