Who Was Rupa Tirkey?

Tirkey was a 26-year-old officer in charge of the Sahibganj women’s police station. Reportedly, she was found dead on May 3. Her father alleged that she was murdered. A month after the death he filed a petition in the Bombay High Court for a CBI probe. He alleged his daughter was harassed by some colleagues.

Tirkey's father Devanand Oraon accused Assembly representative of chief minister Hemant Soren Pankaj Mishra, and another person Dahu Yadav.

Oraon alleged that her daughter investigated some cases against the wish of Mishra following which he murdered his daughter.

The case garnered massive attention following an outrage over her death by tribal rights groups and opposition BJP. As a result of the same, the Hemant Soren government set up a one-member judicial commission to probe the allegations. Tirkey’s father had challenged the government’s decision in the Court.

Oraon’s counsel Rajiv Kumar said, "Police started projecting it as a suicide from the very next day after her body was found in mysterious conditions."

The bench of justice Dwivedi also ordered to initiate criminal contempt of court proceedings against advocate general Rajiv Ranjan and advocate general Sachin Kumar for one of their remarks during the hearing in the case.
