Who Is Swati Singh? Uttar Pradesh Minister Of Women Welfare

Swati Singh, sitting MLA from Sarojani Nagar of Lucknow is in race with husband Dayashankar Singh for ticket from the same seat.

Swati Singh, the minister in the state of Uttar Pradesh along with her husband Dayashankar Singh are in a race to get the party tickets from Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) for the upcoming polls in the state during February 2022.

Both of them have served the seat in past and the party is yet to announce its candidate from the given Sarojani Nagar constituency of Lucknow.

Who Is Swati Singh?

Swati Singh is the Minister of State (Independent Charge) to the Uttar Pradesh government. She also serves for the Ministry of Women Welfare, Family Welfare, Maternity, and Child Welfare in the Uttar Pradesh government. 

Her husband Dayashankar Singh, BJP state vice-president, was expelled from Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP). He made a comment on Mayawati comparing the Bahujan Samaj Party head and former Chief Minister of the state to a prostitute during a public meeting in 2016. However, his expulsion was canceled in 2017.

Swati Singh then entered the field of active politics. In 2017. she was elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Uttar Pradesh from Sarojani Nagar constituency of Lucknow as a BJP candidate. She then became part of the cabinet member led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. She has under her portfolio list of ministries like Flood Control, Women welfare, NRI, Agriculture export, Agriculture Marketing, and Agriculture Foreign Trade. 

From 2016 to 2018, Singh also served as the president of Uttar Pradesh BJP Mahila Morcha, a women's wing of BJP. Swati Singh was also accused of threatening a government official to not pursue FIR against the Ansal builders. Reportedly, an audio clip of the minister went viral and the Chief Minister later summoned her up for detailing the matter. Later on, she was also allegedly caught on the camera distributing Rs 100 notes along with the prasad at the Bada Mangal festival. 

She also made headlines in 2017 when protests were going on in Uttar Pradesh by women sections demanding prohibition in the state. The photograph of minister Swati Singh inaugurating a beer bar in Gomati Nagar of Lucknow went viral, where she was seen cutting the ribbon along with a few bureaucrats.
