Who Is Mamta Dsouza? She is the proud recipient of Union Home Ministry medal for excellence in investigation. This senior police inspector at the Thane city police has been felicitated for cracking a 2016 sexual assault case of a two-year-old girl.

She was a senior inspector at the Kamothe police station when the assault happened.
She was on a leave at that time as she has to attend a private function in Thane. She rushed to the incident site quickly when her team alerted her about the assault of a toddler.
In an interview, she mentioned that she was shocked when she saw the toddler in a miserable state. The girl was quickly hospitalised. This was followed by an investigation where it was found that the toddler's uncle was the accused. There were bloodstains on his body. He, too, confessed to his crime and was arrested under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.
A chargesheet was submitted against him after collecting all the evidence. The man was penalised and sentenced to life-imprisonment.
