Who Is Karine Elharrar: The incumbent Minister of Energy of Israel spoke to the Israeli media and said that she was unable to attend the COP26 meeting which was held on November 1, 2021. The minister is in a wheelchair and she alleged that there were no arrangements for her to enter the conference hall.

While speaking to the media, she said that it is "sad" how an international institution like United Nations does not have accessibility to events. She said that there she could either take the shuttle bus or walk to the event and neither was a comfortable option for her. Even the bus did not have any facility for her wheelchair. An official from Israel said that they have lodged a formal complaint with the COP26 organising committee.

The Prime Minister of Israel said in an official statement that he would not attend the conference on Tuesday if the minister from his cabinet is not able to do so. He said, "This is scandalous conduct and it shouldn’t have happened."

She added, "I came with certain goals, and I couldn’t achieve them today.”

Neil Wigan, UK ambassador to Israel Neil Wigan, apologised for the incident in a tweet. According to a report by BBC, Elharrar had to wait outside the venue in Glasgow for approximately two hours before having no choice but to go back to her accommodation in Edinburgh more than 80 km away.
