Who is Hend bint Faisal Al-Qasimi: A princess from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sparked debate on the internet after posting strong words of criticism for an Indian television anchor and journalist. Claiming Sudhir Chaudhary is an “Islamophobe,” 37-year-old Hend bint Faisal Al-Qasimi questioned his participation in a seminar being hosted in Abu Dhabi next week between November 25 and 26.

Over multiple tweets, Al-Qasimi said Chaudhary, who is the Editor-in-Chief of Zee News, held a religious bias against Muslims, pointing to his coverage of Shaheen Bagh and other Anti-Citizenship Act protests in India last year. “He ran fake stories, targeting Muslim students and women…” she tweeted.

The seminar in question is being organised by the Abu Dhabi chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and an advertisement for the same features Chaudhary. More here. In a separate tweet, Al-Qasimi tagged ICAI and asked why they were “bringing an Islamophobe and hater” to her “peaceful country.”

Al-Qasimi’s tweets have gone viral, garnering thousands of retweets and likes.

Know Who Is Hend bint Faisal Al-Qasimi

Hend bint Faisal Al-Qasimi hails from the influential Al Qasimi family based in Sharjah, UAE. Their dynasty is among the longest-running ones in the Middle East and claims to be direct descendants of Prophet Muhammad. The princess is noted for her outspoken views on social media, especially condemning Islamophobia.

Alongside her social media presence, Al-Qasimi is also a businesswoman, journalist and author with multiple published works to her credit. She presides over the Dubai Fashion Week as a patron.

Her statements against Chaudhary find context in her active objections last year in March against the vilification of Indian Muslims in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sharing messages of hate, allegedly posted by Indians residing in the UAE, she said it was “un-Indian” to see attacks against Muslims and Arabs.
