Who Is Harmilan Bains? The 20-year-old athlete broke the national record on Thursday at the 60th National Open Athletics Championship in Warangal. She was able to finish the 1,500 meter race in just 4:05:39 seconds.

Earlier the record was held by Sunita Rani who had made the mark in Busan Asian Games in 2002.

" I have been trying very hard since I started in the game. It was my target to break the national record and today that I have made it I am very happy that all the work, all the seriously about my diet and...today I made it, " Bains told a reporter after her victory.

Who Is Harmilan Bains?

• Bains is the daughter of former athletes, Amandeep Singh and Madhuri Singh who won the silver medal at Asian Games in the 800 meter race in Busan.
• She made clocked her personal best last year with 4:14:68 seconds and was able to reach the finish line 10 seconds earlier on Thursday.
