She joined the BJP after working as an associate professor at Shri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research and as a junior assistant at the Odisha government’s irrigation department. Murmu will be the first president born after the country’s independence if she is elected. The BJP’s selection of Murmu, a member of India’s Adivasi community, a particularly marginalised group, as its candidate for the next President of India is a significant step in that direction.
