Who Is Dr R Bindu: The 54-year-old newly appointed Higher Education Minister in the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet is one of the highly educated ministers in the state.
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has announced that the team of previous ministers will be replaced with new faces in the cabinet. Except for the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, the entire cabinet has now been replaced.
While many rejoice in the act of replacing ministers, there have also been mixed reactions regarding some of the replacements. The replacement of KK Shailaja, the former Health Minister, has put a spotlight on Veena George who is appointed to be the new Health Minister of the state. Among all the newly appointed MLAs, the new Kerala Cabinet for the first time sees three women ministers in the cabinet. These women are Dr. R Bindu, Veena George, and Chinchu Rani.
Who is Dr R Bindu?
- Dr. R Bindu is one of the three women appointed as ministers in the Pinarayi Cabinet. She is also the highest educated minister in the newly appointed team. Dr. Bindu has been appointed to be the new Higher Education Minister, replacing Dr. K T Jaleel.
- Dr. Bindu is a Communist Party of India (Marxist) veteran and a former member of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI). This is her first term serving as an MLA.
- Dr. Bindu has a Ph.D. in English Literature. She was also the head of the English department and vice-principal of Sree Kerala Varma College.
- The new Higher Education Minister is the very first woman mayor of Thrissur Municipal Corporation and is also a central committee member of the All India Democratic Women’s Association.
- Dr. Bindu is the wife of CPM state secretary and former MLA K Vijayaraghavan.
