Who is Diksha Singh, model set to contest UP Panchayat Polls: Model Diksha Singh is replacing her father and contesting the District Panchayat Elections in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district. She is taking the political plunge after the district panchayat seat that her father was preparing to contest from has now been reserved for women.

Here are ten things to know about model-turned politician Diksha Singh:

1.Diksha  Singh was born in Chittori village in the Baksha area. She studied till Class 3 in the same village and then moved to Mumbai for further studies and then to Goa with her father, Jitendra Singh.

2. She will be contesting the District Panchayat Elections from Ward No. 26 of Baksha Development Block of Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district.

3. Singh participated in the Miss India beauty pageant in 2015 and was one of the finalists of the contest. She said to have been participating in political debates since her college days.

4. The 24-year-old model claimed that she visited her village from time to time since moving away for studies and career. On Friday, she came to her village and said, "On coming here, I saw that even today, Jaunpur district is far away from development. So, I have come for the Panchayat elections, thinking of some change."

5. Singh was a BA second-year student when she participated in the Femina Miss India pageant. She graduated from MES College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar, Goa. Her father Jitendra Singh owns businesses in Goa and Rajasthan.

6. She then chose a career in modelling and took up several assignments after completing her graduation.

7. Last year, she appeared in the music video of Darshan Raval and Neha Kakkar’s song Teri Aakhon Mein.

8. In February this year, she featured in Raval's song Rabba Mehar Kare. She recently said she had also written a film, Ishq Tera and has worked in advertisements for many big products. She will soon appear in a web series as well, news agency PTI reports.
