White House staff secretary Rob Porter resigned after two of is ex-wives accused him of domestic abuse. They alleged that he had been physically and emotionally abusive towards them. Senior aides to President Donald Trump had also known about the allegations for months, after the FBI had refused to give Porter security clearance.

His ex-wife Jennifer Willoughby wrote that Porter called her things like ‘fucking bitch’ and later discovered that he had kicked his first wife. Just a month into their marriage, Porter had physically prevented her from leaving the house. Within another two months, she wrote, she filed a protective order against him because he had “punched in the glass on our front door while I was locked inside.”

She said that she knew that the verbal and emotional abuse she was enduring was not normal. But she had also not put herself in the category of someone whose husband laid hands on her. However, after their one year anniversary, her husband physically dragged her out of the shower.

“Rob wasn’t finished fighting, I suppose,” she told The Post. “He came and grabbed me by the shoulders here and pulled me out of the shower in a rage … That was the first time that anger had gone beyond the words and the insults and the regular rage I had been accustomed to.”

“After the end of about three years of marriage I was a shell of a person,” she added. “A muted version of the person I had been when I met Rob.”

She spoke to his ex-wife, Colbie Holderness, for the first time after Porter joined the White House. Holderness told her about the physical abuse she had suffered. Porter had done things like punching her in the face.

They had approached the FBI in January 2017.

Porter has denied all claims:

"These outrageous allegations are simply false. I took the photos given to the media nearly 15 years ago and the reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described,” he said in a statement. “I have been transparent and truthful about these vile claims, but I will not further engage publicly with a coordinated smear campaign.”
