As per reports, the antibodies from the horse can be an efficient treatment of the coronavirus in the future.

What Is Horse Antisera?

Dr Dimple Kasana of the Central Research Institute called antisera a readymade antibodies. While speaking to the press, she said, "Whenever an infection occurs in the human body, it naturally raises antibodies but that takes some time. It takes around 7 to 14 days when you make your own antibodies against any antigen and they are specific antibodies are meant to favour infection."

She also explained the process of the antibody. For example if someone gets bitten by a dog, it would be difficult for that person to wait for 14 days for the antibodies to kick in. ".. you would want something immediately. So you will raise these antibodies artificially somewhere outside the human body." She added that horse is a large animal so if the antibodies are raised in large amounts one can get a large number of titers. She said, "You give this artificial antibody to the person whoever requires it and you immediately have a response that is an immune response."

Kasana spoke on the treatment of COVID-19 with such antibodies. She said, "So whenever there is COVID infection, we, unfortunately, do not have any specific treatments. So far, it all depends upon the immune response of a person's body. Each person will have a different response, we may give antivirals, you may give steroids, but each person would react differently because the bodies are different." If antibodies are made separately and given to COVID-19 infected person or someone with COVID-19 antigen then no time will be lost and there will be immediate response, she added.

The research institute has sought permissions for the clinical trials of the studies.
