The traditional 41-gun and 21-gun salutes fired in Hyde Park and the Tower of London on the occasion stood cancelled for a consecutive second year. The Official Instagram account of the Royal Family shared the Queen's message of her thanking all those who wished her and sent tributes and messages of condolence.

The note read, "I have, on the occasion of my 95th birthday today, received many messages of good wishes, which I very much appreciate."

"While as a family we are in a period of great sadness, it has been a comfort to us all to see and to hear the tributes paid to my husband, from those within the United Kingdom and around the world"

The Queen is said to be spending the day quietly, without marking it in any meaningful way. Close family members may join her, however, it might not include the Prince of Wales, according to media reports.

The Instagram post that is captioned "The Queen’s message to people across the world who have sent tributes and messages of condolence following the death of The Duke of Edinburgh," gained over 4 lakh likes within a few hours with flooding comments wishing the Queen on her birthday.

The Queen went on to thank people in her note and said, "My family and I would like to thank you for all the support and kindness shown to us in recent days."

She said that the family has been deeply touched and continues to be reminded of the "extraordinary impact" Prince Philip had on people throughout his life.
