A disturbing video of an old woman beaten in Kalyan, Maharashtra by her husband has gone viral on the internet, sparking massive outrage. Reports suggest the persons in the video have been identified and police have filed a suo moto case in the matter.

The octogenarian man, one Gajanan Buwa Chikankar as per ABPis seen thrashing his wife in the video circulating on WhatsApp. He brutally beats her with a bucket before dragging her, while she cries and pleads for him to stop. The violence reportedly ensued over a domestic issue related to water.

The couple’s grandson caught the assault on camera, as per reports quoting police, after which it began circulating and went viral. Police are reportedly trying to locate Chikankar and arrests haven’t been made yet.

Old Woman Beaten In Kalyan, Domestic Violence Case Sends Shockwaves

The woman refused to file a complaint in the domestic violence case, prompting police to file one under sections 323, 324, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code, all relating to harm caused to another person.

After the assault incident surfaced, Shiv Sena leaders visited the couple’s house to assess the situation, Mumbai Mirror reports. Asha Rasal, party member was quoted saying, “When we went there, the woman was sitting idle… However, she denied that she was beaten and claimed that family members took care of her. We could not control our tears after seeing her state.”

She added that family members told her everyone in the house was afraid of the elderly man, who is known for having a temper. Investigations are underway in the case.
