Video Of 2 Girls Molested By 14 Men In UP Goes Viral

In a shocking case, 14 men allegedly molested two women in a village near Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, captured the whole incident on video and posted it on social media. While police have confirmed the case, cops at Tanda police station -- under which the village comes -- has not found out yet when the video was shot. It has been circulating on social media for a few days now.

The video shows the men riding motorcycles and trying to block the way of the two women walking on the road. They then “push, pull and grope the women”. It goes on to show the men lifting a woman and carrying her off, reported News 18.

The video has created an uproar on social media. As soon as the police came to know about the incident, they arrested the main accused and registered a case against all 14 members of the gang who have been identified.

"An FIR has been lodged against 14 persons. Main accused Shahnawaz has been arrested and the probe is on," principal secretary (home) Arvind Kumar said in Lucknow. Rampur senior superintendent of police Vipin Tanda told TOI that the other accused will be arrested soon.

The police registered an FIR on their own as the victims' families did not approach them and have been mum about the incident.

"The video was uploaded and went viral on Sunday, following which we registered the case," said Rampal Singh, SHO, Tanda kotwali.

The FIR has been registered under IPC sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354B (assault or use of force to woman with intent to disrobe) and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act against the 14 men.

It has been reported that of all the accused in the case -- Shahnawaj, Nawved, Farmaan, Jahane Aalam and Saddam -- are of Kuwakhera village of Rampur district.

UP has been under scanner for its below average status of law and order. Recently, members of the women’s group AIDWA protested on the roads of Lucknow against the increase in crimes against women. The state government needs to deploy some serious methods to control the incidents as the anti-Romeo squad seems to be failing to protect women.
