Madhu Priya, a daughter of vegetable vendors, who has surpassed all odds to become the first girl child in the family to have received a Masters degree, has now earned her big promotion at work, another achievement for the family.

A native of Chennai, Priya is a first-generation graduate and her family has been selling vegetables in the state of Tamil Nadu for years now. She is also the first girl from the family to get an on-campus placement in an Indian multinational corporation and the first working mother in the family, according to her LinkedIn profile. Priya managed to complete her education and joined the FPS Innovation Labs in 2019 as a senior Human Resources Associate and after nearly two years of tireless hard work, she was recently promoted to Associate Manager in Chennai.
Priya further stated that during school, her mother would always come last for parent-teacher meetings. "I was furious with her. Little did I know why. When I graduated from school, my mom said that she always came last so as to not embarrass me in front of my classmates for being a vegetable vendor's daughter," she said, adding that the parents of her classmates were mostly celebrities and businessmen. "I felt terrible for not understanding her and not having the chance to show my friends how proud I am of her."

Priya says, to her achievement is, being a proud vegetable vendor's daughter who defied all odds. She thanked her mother for her constant support, encouragement and for being a major influence on her life. "I am far better from where my neighbours thought I would be. This is my first promotion and I dedicate this to my Mother," she concluded.
