Last Friday, actor Pearl V Puri was arrested by the Waliv police, for allegedly raping a five-year-old minor at a film set in Vasai in 2019. He had earlier applied for bail, and his plea came up for hearing before the Vasai Court, today, i.e, Friday.

Ashish A. Dubey counsel of the minor's father said that his client was not in touch with his daughter for five months, as she was in custody with her mother. He claimed that when the father went to her school to pay the fees, she said that she was scared, and wanted to be with him. When they reached home, the girl told everything that happened to her, to her father.

The father immediately contacted the police, and sent his daughter for a medical examination, at Nair Hospital. The examination confirmed that the child had been honest about all that had happened to her. She then named actor Pearl V Puri with his screen name, Raghbir (from the serial Bepanah Pyarr) as the accused.

Pictures of different TV actors were then showed to the girl, and when Puri's photo was shown to her, she allegedly confirmed that it was him.

Later, the police had a talk with the girl, who was then made to meet the magistrate alone, to record her statement, under Section 164 of CrPC. Dubey said that she confirmed the same story, in front of the magistrate too.

Through his counsel, the father said that many influential people are questioning the accusation, against actor Pearl V Puri. He then said that his bad marriage and toxic relationship are being blamed, to divert all attention from the case.

"My client who is a middle-class man is very deeply hurt by all these accusations because he is fighting all alone in this battle supporting the child. Is trying to get justice for the 5-year-old child against rape such a big crime that everyone is being judgemental about the father rather than actually knowing facts from the police," said Dubey.
