Details of the video

In the video, posted on 'X', the cop is seen shouting at the woman even though she reminded him to watch his language. The cop uses objectionable language and tone stating, "Did I put my hands around your waist? Did I open your underpants?" while abusing the woman. He also hurled Hindi cuss words at the woman.

Apparently, the cop and the woman were discussing a money deal which turned into a dispute. In the video, the cop says, "The money was provided secretly but when it has come to give back the money, entire Lucknow has come to know about it."

What does the incident tell us?

The incident shows the amount of disrespect that the cop had for women. He not only misused the power he has as a cop but also the privilege he enjoys as a man. For once, if we consider that the duo were in an argument, what justifies the use of cuss words, underpants or the woman's waist? Why did the cop comment on the woman's personal life or belongings? Would he use the same words while dealing with a man? Doesn't this show that the cop openly sexualised the woman? If cops misbehave with women, where will they go to seek justice?

Moreover, be it a man or a woman, there should always be a certain respect while addressing them. Even in an argument, you cannot casually shout or hurl abuses, especially when posted in a responsible position.

This incident shows that society is filled with people who are educated but behave as if they are not. The cop who has the responsibility to solve the problems of people was shameless enough to abuse a woman that too inside the police station, a place that is considered to be the temple of safety. If educated people like him behave in such an unacceptable manner, what can we expect from others?
