Who Was Tunisha Sharma?

Tunisha Sharma was a 20-year-old actor who starred as the lead in the television series Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul. The actor was said to have been in an on-and-off relationship with co-star Sheezan Mohammed Khan.

She made her acting debut as a child artist in 2015 and had also worked in films.

On December 24, Sharma died by suicide by hanging herself on the sets of her show in the make-up room at Naigaon.

Team members went to check on her after she didn't return and broke down the door to find her hanging in the makeup room. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Her body was taken to the Nalasopra Hospital for a postmortem.

The Waliv police reached the sets of the show for further investigations. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Who has been arrested?

A day after Tunisha's suicide, police arrested her co-star and former boyfriend, Sheezan Mohammad Khan, under IPC Section 306 (abetting suicide). He remained in judicial custody until March 4, when he was granted bail by a Maharashtra court.

Investigation

DCP Chandrakant Jadhav shared the inputs from the case with the media. The police interrogated the cast and crew of the TV show.

Tunisha Sharma’s mother, Vanita, was also called in for investigation. The actor’s mother had alleged that Tunisha and Sheezan were in a relationship and had broken up, prompting Sharma to end her life.

Vanita claimed that Khan was apparently cheating on her daughter. She also alleged that her daughter had suffered from panic attacks and was visibly upset about her breakup with Khan. In her statement, she said that Khan should be charged with abetment of suicide.

The police have stated that no love-jihad angle has been discovered so far. The preliminary postmortem report stated the cause of death to be hanging.

On December 31, the Vasai court in Maharashtra sent Khan, the reported former boyfriend and co-star of Sharma to 14-day judicial custody.

Current Status

The police have found some deleted WhatsApp chats from Sharma’s former boyfriend, Sheezan Khan, and a 15-minute conversation in the green room between the couple sometime before Sharma’s death on December 24.

The police also recovered about 250 pages of WhatsApp chats between Khan and Sharma from his phone. They will be contacting WhatsApp to gain access to the deleted chats. Police said the duo seemed disturbed, and Khan left the room while Sharma went to the bathroom.

The Waliv police sought Khan's remand on Wednesday in connection with the abetment to suicide case. The court has extended his custody by two days until Friday.

Her family has collected her mortal remains from the hospital for the funeral.

On Monday, actor Sheezan Khan's sisters claimed in front of the media that Tunisha Sharma was depressed as a result of childhood trauma. Stating that Sharma's mother controlled the young actor's life to a large extent, Khan's sisters alleged that this systematic control laid a huge negative impact on Sharma. Citing an incident, Falaq Naaz recalled and alleged that Vanita Sharma once tried to harm Tunisha Sharma with a phone cord after the latter tried to take a stand for herself.
