Food and girls have been trolled way too much on the internet and even an American healthy snack creator has trolled people who turn cranky when they are hungry. But they are not wrong. Food is definitely comfort and all of health majorly revolves around food. To reduce weight, to gain weight, to rid stress, to reduce PMS and regularize your irregular period.

Yes and to unravel the mystery behind regulating periods via food, we connected with Body Cocoon’s founder and wellness director, Janvi Chitalia, and here’s what she had to say.

Janvi: There are two major factors that determine a timely period; one of them being diet and lifestyle and the other being effective stress management. It is important to understand that the key to rid irregular periods away, is to eat good complex carbohydrates such as bajra, jowar, ragi, barley, oats, and rajgeera as a replacement to rice, maida, sugars and potatoes. Adding protein is important as it is the key to managing effective fat loss and keeping weight under ideal BMI (Body Mass Index) range to aid the menstrual cycle.

So, here are six foods that will help you regularize your period cycle:

1. Unripe Papaya

Green, unripe papaya is considered useful in regulating menstrual flow as it helps the muscle fibers contract in the uterus. If periods are scanty, an unripe papaya is one of the best options to consume to increase the flow.

Tip – You can drink ½ glass of unripe papaya juice daily before periods

Caution – do not drink it during your periods. It increases blood flow during period and thus should be avoided.

2. Turmeric

Turmeric has a lot of medicinal value and it helps in regulating menstruation and balancing hormones due to its high antioxidant property. Its antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties relieve menstrual pain and alleviate PMS.

Tip – Quarter to 1 tsp turmeric in milk or water is recommended.

3. Ginger

Ginger is highly recommended for regulating menstrual cycles and ridding away irregular periods. It is known as the best option to have especially when delayed period cycles

Tip – Boil 1 tbsp of fresh ginger for 5 mins and can be had up to 3 times a day.

4. Cumin

Regularize your period with less cramping and pain with soaked cumin seeds are a good option. They have a contracting effect on the uterus which helps trapped blood to flow.

Tip – Take 2 spoons of cumin seeds and soak in water overnight and consume both in the morning. Do this daily for best results

5. Oily Fish

Omega 3 fats help reduce inflammation which is a root cause of many health issues such as pain, bloating, menstrual cramps and especially blood flow.

So if you experience heavy painful periods instead of a healthy normal flow incorporate oily fish into your diet and cut down on red meat and cheeses which are rich in saturated fat

Tip – 1-3 g a day in capsule form.

6. Carrots

Carrots are great for your eyes and also for balancing hormones! Whole raw carrots contain a unique fiber that helps regulate hormones by binding toxins, especially excess estrogen, getting it out of the body.

Tip – Half a cup of carrots can be consumed daily. Enjoy it as a snack! It is best eaten in between meals, but not with a meal.

So girls, don’t worry about period getting delayed during festivals and vacay times. Just adapt these and regularize your period and live your life the way you want it.
