Sanders took to Twitter to share the incident. She said that the owner asked her to “leave because I work for (at)POTUS and I politely left”. Sanders added, “I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”

In about an hour, her tweet generated about 22,000 replies.

Former Press secretary for President George W. What did the owner say?

The owner of the restaurant gave various reasons as to why she refused service to the official. She said that she was concerned for several of her employees who were gay and knew that Sanders had defended Trump's desire to bar transgender people from the military.

According to a report by The Washington Post, the restaurant’s co-owner Stephanie Wilkinson was called by her employers to report about Sanders' arrival.
