Professional Wrestling is all about display of physical power and strength and even though these are considered to be innate traits of men; women have had a special place in the field. The WWE wrestlers especially have received equal recognition, both male and female. Sadly, one of the most successful female wrestlers we have had in the recent years has now decided to retire.

According to a recent announcement by WWE, three-time Divas champion, AJ Lee has decided to retire. According to a tweet by them early this morning: “BREAKING: AJ Lee (April Mendez) has decided to retire from in-ring competition with WWE.  We wish AJ the very best.” This has been a shock to many as she recently tweeted her participation in the upcoming Wrestlemania: “You guys, I'm 2-0 at Wrestlemania. I'm pretty much going after Taker's streak.”

The wife of WWE Superstar and current UFC fighter CM Punk, Lee seems to have been affected by the tiff between her husband and WWE and this may have been the reason she quit at the age of 28, when she still had some good years ahead of her. The other reason could be her standing up against the gender inequality at her workplace. Lee had been in the news recently for criticizing WWE executive Stephanie McMahon for the inequality between the women and men, reported Fox Sports.

Her last appearance on WWE was this Sunday, where she teamed up with Paige to defeat the Bella Twins. Even though her fans expected this early retirement they are hugely disappointed, however, many can find solace in that fact that her future endeavors might include writing a book.
