Talking about the case, she told in an interview that she was on leave as she had to attend a private function in Thane when her team alerted her about the assault involving the toddler. She quickly left for the spot where the assault had taken place. She said that she was aghast seeing the toddler lying in a miserable condition. She was quickly hospitalised and an investigation began. After interrogating the family members, they suspected the toddler's uncle to be the accused as there were bloodstains on his clothes.
He was arrested under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012. They gathered all the evidence and it took just a month for the team to submit a charge sheet against him. The man, too, confessed to his crime. He was sentenced to life-imprisonment and was penalised as well.
The police inspector said that she would dedicate her medal to the survivor adding that seeing her recover has been a rewarding experience for her. She also credited her team who helped her crack the case.
There were 10 others from the state and 152 candidates throughout the country nominated for the same award.
