Thailand Open: PV Sindhu Defeats Kisona Selvaduray, Qualifies For Quarterfinals

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu emerged victorious against her Malaysian opponent Kisona Selvaduray in the Thailand Open.

PV Sindhu defeated Kisona Selvaduray and managed to enter into the quarterfinal round of the Thailand Open. She emerged victorious against her Malaysian opponent in just 35 minutes. The scores were 21-10, 21-12.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) shared the exciting news on Twitter. 

PV Sindhu will now play against the winner in the match between  Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand and Ji Hyun Sung of Korea. 

After the match ended, PV Sindhu said that although the match was an easy one, she did make some basic errors in the second game. She added, during the second game, she was on high alert as the wind was quite strong. However, she took the last week's defeat in her stride, and made the most out of this match. "Overall, it's a good win and I'm really looking forward to the next round," Sindhu said. 

PV Sindhu Cleared The First Round On Tuesday

On Tuesday, she won against Thai opponent Busanan Ongbamrungphan with the scores 21-17, 21-13 in the first round. The match between them lasted for 43 minutes.

The badminton star, scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win a World Championships gold medal last year. She had pulled out of Denmark Open in September. 

In the men's singles, Sameer Verma defeated Denmark's Rasmus Gemke and made it into the quarterfinals. He will now be playing against Anders Antonsen in the next round. He managed to oust Gemke in just 39 minutes. 

Besides that, the mixed-doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa crashed Germany's Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich 22-20, 14-21, 21-16. They too will be playing in the quarterfinals. 

A day earlier, HS Prannoy beat Asian Games champion Jonatan Christie 18-21, 21-16, 23-21 while fighting through a dislocation in his left shoulder. However, he and his roommate Kidambi Srikanth had to quit after testing positive for COVID-19.
