Tennis Player Ankita Raina Included In TOPS Core Group Along With Four Other Players

Tennis player Ankita Raina has been added to the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) core group.

"Apart from Raina, four other athletes who recently achieved Tokyo Olympic qualification were added to the TOPS core group, Rowers Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh who were promoted from the TOPS development group, and wrestlers Seema Bisla and Sumit Malik," said an official statement.

She had recently won her first-ever WTA 250 title at Phillip Island in Australia and is also partnering with Sania Mirza for the Billie Jean King Cup.

Vinesh Phogat included in TOPS core group

Financial sanctions worth 1 crore rupees have been approved for players from different sports, such as wrestling, tennis and rowing.

For wrestling, Vinesh Phogat's proposal was approved by the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC). She is currently training overseas until the Olympic games will be conducted in July this year. She has got financial support of Rs. 1.13 crore from the Target Olympic Podium Scheme, so far.

Tennis doubles players Divij Sharan and Rohan Bopanna also got approved by the MOC, which will fund their participation in tournaments that will be held between January and June this year.

As for rowing, Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh's proposal has been sanctioned by the MOC. They had recently got qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, earlier this month.

Tennis player Ankita Raina against Anastasia Rodionova

Tennis player Ankita Raina has now gone past her Australian opponent Anastasia Rodionova 6-1. She had earlier played at the opening match of the tournament against Rodionova. They are now playing a match after the last two matches resulted in a tie.

She had earlier played in the Australian Open tournament and crashed out after the third round. This was the first grand slam tournament of this year.
