Television Actor And Host VJ Chitra Passes Away, Condolences Pour In From The Industry

It is said that VJ Chitra, who got engaged to businessman Hemanth a few months ago, had been dealing with depression.

VJ Chitra dies, VJ Chitra Death

Known for playing Mullai in the hit serial Pandian Stores, a Tamil language drama, actress VJ Chitra passed away in a hotel in Chennai on December 9. She was 29. Reportedly, she died by suicide in Nazarethpettai, Chennai. Her body has been sent for autopsy by the police and an investigation underway, news agency ANI reported.

Reports say  Chitra, who got engaged to businessman Hemanth a few months ago, had been dealing with depression. Her last social media post came in late Tuesday night, in which she had shared a picture of herself from a photoshoot.

Condolences have been pouring in from the industry ever since the news of her unexpected demise broke.

“When a life full of energy is snuffed away too soon. What drives them far far away? Wish she had reached out to someone, anyone. Never knew her personally, yet feel the pain. Hope you have found what you were looking for, peace,” wrote actor-politician Khushbu Sundar.

“Sad to hear about death by suicide early today morning of television & serial actress #VJChitra of #PandianStores serial fame,” reads Columnist and writer Sreedhar Pillai’s tweet.

Another actress from the industry, Aathmika wrote, "Oh dear you don’t deserve this! I still wish this news is untrue," along with a picture of Chitra.

A Senior Journalist, Latha Srinivasan tweeted saying, "may she rest in peace."

Musician and actress, Soundarya Bala Nandakumar wrote how devastating it was for her to accept the news. "A person with such infectious energy. Have always rooted for your success and was very happy it was being channelised properly! Your ladder of growth was very very inspiring!," she wrote adding, "I am shocked and disturbed beyond words."

Fellow actor Chandran's wife and host, Anjana Rangan spoke up about the importance of sharing your pain with someone and urged people to take care of their mental health. She said, "Please please talk it out. Don't let ur pains take away your life. Speak out to someone, get a hold on ur self, and live life with strength and happiness. Never let anyone or anything become more precious than ur life."

On the work front, Chitra had been seen in serials like Saravanan Meenatchi, Velunachi, Darling Darling, Mannan Magal and Chinna Papa Periya Papa, to name a few. She also took part as one of the contestants in the dancing show Jodi Fun Unlimited.
