Pune: 14-Year-Old Boy Raped 5-Year-Old Girl; Apprehended

Teen Boy Raped 5-Year-Old in Pune: In a shocking incident, a fourteen-year-old boy allegedly raped a five-year-old girl when she visited his house to watch television, as per the police complaint.

The incident came to light on Tuesday. The investigating officer Pooja Kadam explained that “her father was not home, and mother had gone out while when she went to his house to watch TV." The accused, aged 14, has been apprehended, and the minor girl has been sent for medical examination, the sub-inspector in the case revealed. She also said that the teenager will be produced before a Juvenile Justice Board on Tuesday.

Last year, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped and her 14-year-old cousin molested by two of their male friends in Pune. Police arrested all five accused, who are in their early 20s, hours after they allegedly abducted and confined the minors with the help of three more men on the pretext of a casual meeting. In another case, last year, in Alandi near Pune, a 14-year-old boy allegedly raped a four-year-old girl.

In 2019, the Supreme Court had observed that over 100 child rape cases registered in the jurisdictions of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate between January and June. That year, the issue of “child rape” cases saw a rise and the apex court noticed that during the six-month period, from January to June 2019, a total of 24,000 cases were registered in the country but "only 900 cases trials have been completed,” the bench said.
